Bus service carries on

THE TM Travel bus route in WIngerworth is carrying on but the service is being cut back (from Apirl 1) because not enough fare-paying passengers are using it.

The service, which links Chesterfield and the Royal Hospital to the village and includes stops near the church, is used mainly by elderly people on travel passes because fare-paying passengers cannot used their return Stagecoach tickets on it.
Operations Mannager Paul Harding said: “It is a commercial decision, because patronage has not been very good. We are taking off the first and last runs because no-one uses them at all, and making it more viable that way.”
The service is important to elderly people who live in the area of the church, and TM Travel are hoping that Derbyshire County Council will porvide extra financial backing for it. Otherwise it’s long term future is bleak.
